Lincoln, Vt. (ADP) A settlement was reached late last night which will once again allow the "multi-use" of the Friendly Confines. The prolonged and sometimes ugly legal battle was spawned late in last years Wiffle season when the co-tenants, a small flock of sheep, complained about what they deemed as uneccessary grass cutting. In an AP interview last September a spokesruminant was quoted "We just won't stand here on four legs and watch perfectly good grass get cut for grown men to play a child's game". The ruminants, backed by the powerful livestock lobby and the animal rights group PETA, vowed to take the fight to the Supreme Court. Just after 2AM Saturday, mediators for both groups were able to hash out an agreement which will allow for a limited but concentrated season of Wiffle at the Friendly Confines. The Commissioner of LOWBALL, Tommie Thompson, was thrilled with the outcome. "This incident was unfortunate but in the end we're walking away with a land-use plan that is really on the cutting edge. As far as we know, this will be the first rotational grazing plan that incorporates athletic field maintenance and use. This is truly a win-win and we are just thrilled to be back playing the sport we love in a venue that means so much to so many people". The ruminants were not available for comment but are said to be pleased with the plan which will allow for full use of the confines as well as expanded use of other nearby pasture. Early Saturday morning confines grounds keeper "El Guapo" was busy preparing the field for opening day on Sunday. When asked how he felt about Wiffle being back at the confines Guapo responded simply with "bueno, muy bueno". Sunday at 10:04 WIFFLE IS BACK AT THE FRIENDLY CONFINES!!! | ||
