Wiffdependence, a born classic

As the spectacle of this Saturday's parade fades into the past, the Lagers will face off against the Loggers in the annual Wiffdependence Day game. After a year's absence, the most storied regular season game in LowBall returns to Bristol's only downtown wiffle facility. Not only will this be the third installment of the patriotic plastic bash, it will also mark the season opener of the freshly renovated Hunter S. Thompson Memorial Greens. The grounds crew has been sort of hard at work prepping the greens for the highest level of play.

A mid-summer fixture, no single game in LowBall's history has enjoyed as many classics. The two previous Wiffdependence games were both decided on the final play of the final inning. Besides a strong show of wifflemanship, these games have been ripe with intrigue and drama.

The inaugural game at HST came down to a face-off between Hot Rod and long time rival Claudio. Hot Rod emerged victorious with a game ending opposite field single.

Last season, the Wiffdependence game moved to Burnham Field due to continued owner's neglect of HST. The game featured the inaugural uniformed match with all players sporting the fruits of the Commish's labor. Once again it all came down to a final play involving Hot Rod and Claudio, this time with the roles reversed.
Hot Rod mishandled a grounder and the winning run came in, once again on a walk-off single.

As the anticipation builds ahead of this year's famed match, all we can really hope for is another fine game of wiffle and if we are lucky possibly yet another classic.
