A Summer Slacktastic?
Well my fellow wiffle fanatics, it has been a roller coaster of a week and we are just getting to the heart of the plastic. On a stormy and dark hump day, El Guapo shocked the LowBall nation by canceling the highly anticipated Summer Classic due to lack of player responses. As the masses collectively grieved the loss of such a storied event, news came down that the oft troubled El Guapo had been rushed to the Betty Ford clinic shortly after the cancellation announcement. Midnight vigils rose across the nation as fans held onto hope that their hero would emerge. Sadly, it was not to be and with the official death notice, chaos erupted.
The LowPress for the first time ever pulled their content from the internets for a 24 hour moment of silence. Through-out the day on Thursday, a series of obituaries appeared upon the page. But as the shock began to wear off, questions started to arise about the famed Classic, should it go on in his memory and would there be hot dogs if it did?
From his perch high above the common wifflers, the secluded commissioner issued his first statement of the season. In his zen manner, the commissioner urged wifflers to remember their roots and play on. With this direction, Lonichiro launched a revised Slacktastic version of the famed Classic. There would be a 4 team, single elimination tourney, but would there be enough players to support the watered down rendition? No.
The LowBall nation came up a player short and risked another meltdown. Just when you thought this plot had no more twists, it was announced late on Friday that a mysterious Black Cloud team would field just 2 players against the other 3 player teams. It is speculated that this team will be headed by the Black Cloud, who is still recovering from an awful bout of Fortyitis. The second player remains a mystery.
In yet another turn, the family of the deceased El Guapo announced that they would be sporting a team, The Rising Wood, with an unheard of player simply going by Michael. These two unknown collections of wifflers will be taking on the LowBall teams of the Lagers and the Loggers.
It promises to be a rousing affair, a tournament befitting its founder, the dead and gone El Guapo.
